About me

I’m Isabel Stainsby, a native English speaker, and I have been working in the translation industry since 2010. I have a BA and an MA in languages, the Diploma in Translation in both French to English and German to English, and I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, with accreditation in Czech and Slovak to English as well as German and French, and the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (currently for Czech only, but this will change!).

I love languages. I started to learn French when I was 8, and it wasn’t long before I was hooked. Different words, different sounds, but could be used to communicate in the same way as English! How cool! Of course, it wasn’t long before I realised that it wasn’t nearly that simple, which only made language-learning more interesting. Then I took up German and experienced the same heady excitement. By the time I left school, I was fluent in both French and German, and, wanting a new challenge, studied Czech and Slovak at Cambridge University. The rest was history: I became a translator – eventually, having tried various other things first, giving me experience of various other fields from the inside. Language and communication continue to fascinate me and I love to translate.
